I’ve posted that the goal of this website is to educate athletes in sports, health, and other areas. Why worry about things other than our physical performance? Here’s why:
“Only less than 2 percent of basketball or football student-athletes go pro, but the perception is that it is possible to make a career out of it. So these student-athletes take their coursework less seriously than those who have a ‘back-up plan’ in another field.” - Source
OK, so let’s say you’re one of those two percent who do make it to the pros. You’ve got it made, right? Wrong.
“A statistic was cited during the meeting that startled some of the hoopsters. It was said that 60 per cent of retired NBA players go broke five years after their NBA paycheques stop arriving.” - Source
Yes, it’s important to give 100% to your sport, but don’t neglect other areas. Most of us will not make millions of dollars by twenty-five, and even if we do, that might not be enough. Most athletes also can’t expect to play their sport for the remainder of their life. We get old. We lose a step or two. It happens. That’s why it’s vital to not neglect these other areas.
Over the course of this website, I will be discussing a lot of important things directly related to helping you reach your athletic potential. However, I will also discuss things such as the internet, great books to read, preparing yourself for life away from athletics, and other topics as well. I hope you will find my website to be helpful.
